WLUSC members and families,

It’s with great pleasure that we announce a new partnership with the valley’s only Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) team, the Lehigh Valley Tempest. The Tempest, founded by our very own Brittney Ruggieri in 2017, is a collection of premier level players currently participating in high school, college, and beyond. The team provides its’ players with a program that will maintain and develop their skill level, during the summer months, in preparation of potential opportunities to play professionally. Our new partnership will add another level to the WLUSC pyramid of player development and offer a potential pathway for our female players looking to continue playing past their high school years.

Head coach Erik Burstein, the current, and winningest coach in the history of Kutztown University, returns for his second season. He’ll be assisted by Tim Raub, who currently coaches the ’00 Westmont Premier Magic and is a former girls head coach at Phoenixville Area High School. Rob Miller, the General Manager, heads up scheduling, game day logistics, and player management as well. This years’ team will showcase several prominent Lehigh Valley standouts. Among them are Brook Shutter, a former Parkland High School All-Star, who brings strong and creative offensive skills, adding an exciting dimension to the front line. The back end is strengthened by the return of Kutztown University alum, Sam Basillo, a dynamic and experienced wide back, who doubles as a local soccer coach for our Penn Fusion Lehigh Valley affiliate. Also rostered are former WLUSC players, Isabella Ingato, Sydney Cole, Ella Holmes, and Annaleise (Stu) Monser-Kernosh. The season kicks off on Thursday, May 30th @ 7:00 on the turf at Cedar Crest College. The remaining home schedule features games vs Penn Fusion SA (6/18), Torch FC (6/26), and Steel City FC (6/29).

The WLUSC Board of Directors would like to officially welcome the Tempest under the umbrella of Western Lehigh United Soccer. Additionally, and with great pleasure, we welcome Brittney Ruggieri to the board. Be on the lookout for more Tempest communication in the future, with exciting news to share on the US Women’s National Team viewing events to be held at the Steel Stacks in early June.

Go Tempest!
